Visual & Performing Arts: Music

Music

Decades ago, jazz artists from the United States, drawn to the country's sense of rhythm, fused with Spanish instruments and the people's ear for emotion. Since then, jazz has become part of the fabric of Spain. Today, musical talent and styles from all over the world come together in Spain, a perfect spot for international performers to jam.

Opera is revered in Spain, home to José Carreras, Montserrat Caballe, and countless other international stars. Classical music luminaries include Manuel de Falla, Pablo Casals, Carlos Montoya, Andrés Segovia, and Paco de Lucía. Visit the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Teatro Real in Madrid, La Maestranza in Seville. The Zarzuela is a unique musical experience much like an operetta, combining spoken word and dance to recent stories of Spanish life.
